• The Good: Fun page-turning thriller, be sure to bring the popcorn
  • The Bad: Soap-opera levels of drama
  • The Literary: Good audiobook narrators for the multiple protagonists

The company Match Your DNA matches millions of people around the world with their “biological soulmates,” upending the dating industry and increasing divorce rates. We follow along as five recently matched people, including the founder of Match Your DNA, meet the people with whom they’re most compatible. If only that meant they could be happy.

I picked up this book because its scifi premise, and although it’s seriously weak in that department, I couldn’t put down this page-turning soap opera pulp, with all of its gasp-inducing twists and turns. Yes, I literally gasped out loud listening to this audiobook. There’s no real theme here, except maybe don’t let corporations make personal decisions for you, so this novel just boils down to bit of fun.

From the book jacket description, you might mistake this for a romance, but it’s more of a thriller, complete with mystery and lots of deception, and even murder. The author follows five couples, exploring many ways that getting matched with someone about whom you know nothing could go pear-shaped. At first, the protagonists have too-similar names and internal monologues, but once their individual story lines get going, that issue resolves itself because their circumstances are so different.

With the short chapters and just one more mystery to unravel, this is binge reading at its finest! Recommended for a fun summer read! I’ll be checking out the miniseries adaptation soon.
